Bhim Army – Social Organization that Runs More Than 350 Paathshalas

No matter how hard BJP and UP state administration try to suppress the voices of Bhim Army, a social organization, Dalits will come back even stronger to fight the atrocities. Each crime, each atrocity on Dalit has made our resolve to fight against injustice stronger.

Bhim Army gives special emphasis on the education as a social organization it started one paathshala almost 2 years ago in July 2015 set up at Fatehpur Bhado village in Saharanpur and now it runs more 350 paathshalas where special attention is given to Dalit students. Following the footsteps of Dr. Ambedkar, Bhim Army started educating the Dalits in the area. Now, after almost 2 years its influence has spread throughout the region and neighbouring districts of Muzaffarnagar, Shamli and Meerut, which is another reason that Thakurs of the area are angry with the rise of Dalits.

In all these 350 Paathshalas, older Dalits teach the younger and teachers impart ideas of Dalit-Bahujans leaders to the young mind and help shape their future. BJP/RSS government and Manuwadi people are afraid that Dalits are learning and they will break down the chains of slavery. Hence, these Manuwadi people are trying everything to stop Bhim Army by labeling it as Naxalite group.

Bhim Army believes that through education only Dalits can gain strength and only education can empower them. 15 years old Dalit Rohit Raj is well known among the Bhim Army as an Education Minister of the social organization. He teaches students even older to him.

Bhim Army not only fights for the rights of Dalits but organizes various camps for blood donation as well as traffic awareness with police. It is a cultural social organization and observes festivals related to Dalit-Bahujans such as Guru Ravidas Jayanti, Buddha Jayanti, and Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti.

“We felt that if we can do anything for the country, for our people, it had to be with education. On July 21, we held the first meeting of the Bhim Army and decided to start paathshalas in our area to offer free education to our children,” said Vinay Ratna Singh, co-founder of Bhim Army speaking to The Indian Express.

In 2015, in a Rajput run, inter-college Dalits complaint that they are being discriminated and are made to clean the classrooms and are allowed to drink water only after so-called Rajputs have drunk. Bhim Army intervened and straightened the things out. Bhim Army fights for the society and raises voice against the atrocities on women also. Bhim Army has brought the sense of pride among Dalits and has provided the safe environment for women in the area.

On 21st May, more than one lakh Dalits gathered at Jantar Mantar in support of Bhim Army, where the founder of Bhim Army Chandrashekar Azad Ravn delivered the revolutionary speech and challenged Manuwad and Brahminical system.

We support Bhim Army and we would love to see more such social organizations from Dalit community who will work for the Dalits’ upliftment.
