There are many ramifications of BJP leader becoming the CM of UP. It has huge implications not just for UP but for the whole of India. By anointing him as the CM of India’s most populous and largest state, the BJP is trying to send the message that It is not apologetic about Hindutva agenda anymore and soon India is in a way to become a Hindu Rashtra. Hindu communalism in India is dangerous for the democracy.

The elevation of Yogi Adithyanath, a strident Hindutva figure as CM of UP sends the clear signals not just to minorities like Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, but even for Hindus who believe in liberal, inclusive Hinduness have to fall in line with this agenda.

He is being judged on the track record, also based on the statements he has made against Muslims over the years and he has made no bones about how he feels about the Muslims. Therefore, he has been judged based on the tough words made in the past. He has a group called Hindu Yuva Vahini which try to implement his staunch anti-Muslim Agenda on the ground that questions his very credentials to the constitutional post.

The simple fact that Yogi Adithyanath is not being chosen CM despite who he is, he has been chosen because who he is and who he is not merely some of the provocative and utterly gut-wrenching speeches that he has given, it is also about what he has done, do remember media reports that some of his major opponents, all of them being Hindus just disappeared from Gorakhpur. How did they disappear? We don’t know. It’s not the time for speculation about their disappearance. It’s not only Visa vi’s Muslims, but also something far more dreadful here. The character of state power is becoming one sided.

If any peddler of hatred succeeds, why blame the peddler?

He is simply setting whatever gets him more votes. What about others? The opposition party kind of politics should be held responsible for that. It’s simply the delegitimization of the politics from the secularism in this country. Secularism, which was the most sacred principle of this country has been turned into one of the most fraudulent practices.

Hindu Communalism is the real threat to India

Everyone has to be apprehensive because what statements have been made in the past and now he is a constitutional authority. Effects of Hindu communalism in India can be seen from the 100s of riots in Uttar Pradesh.

Every nation is based upon a certain set of values and the values in which the Indian state is based are encapsulated in the Preamble of the constitution and secularism happens to be one of those values on which this country is constituted and on which this country stands.

The true taste of any democracy is not how you treat your majority. The true taste lies in how you treat your minorities and by minorities you mean not just Muslim minority, but also The Sikh minority, the Christian Minority, the various other indigenous tribal groups in different parts of the country.

Therefore secularism or Pluralism in India is a necessity. It’s an imperative. Therefore, if anyone tries to impose a majoritarian ethos, it is not going to work. If we want that democracy survives in India communalism must end and all communities must get equal opportunities.
